Moving? Take Detailed Notes and Get Fair Estimates

Clients need to give themselves at least 8 to 10 weeks to choose a moving company. Once their research is complete, they should have a list of at least 3 to 5 different moving companies that they feel confident can provide excellent services and customer care. Clients should ask these prospective moving companies for moving quotes before they decide on a final mover.

Additionally, clients should take stock of the moving project by making detailed notes. They should note down any large or awkward items, the number of boxes that are expected for each room, the contents of each box, as well as the estimated weight of each box. The same notes and information must be given to each prospective moving company, so that they can provide a fair estimate. This in turn will help clients evaluate each company more objectively.

As estimates may cause some confusion, clients should familiarize themselves with different types of binding and non-binding estimates. One of the best options is the Binding Not-to-Exceed estimate. Under this agreement, if the actual weight of the shipment is more than the written estimate, then the client still pays the amount that was quoted. However, if the actual weight is less than the written estimate, than the clients pays a lesser amount.
