How to Plan for Long Distance Moves

One thing many people don’t realize about moving from one home or office to the next is how different short distance moves are from long distance ones. For one, you can’t simply afford to leave certain valuables behind and “come back for them later.” Here are some other things you should know.

Know What to Bring

Inspect your belongings and make sure to bring all your essentials; remember, a return trip is highly impractical should you forget something invaluable. In contrast, you should also know what not to bring. Do this by taking into account the size of your new home in comparison with the one you’ll leave behind.

One-Year Rule

You should consider donating the things you haven’t used in over a year instead of bringing them with you. Bring only the essentials, as well as those that, you think, will fit into your new home.

Keep It Organized

In your planning, you should encounter at least four types of items: those that you want to bring with you, those for selling, those for charity, and trash. Get four boxes and label them accordingly, putting stuff into where you think they should go.

Hire Professionals

Hire movers with years of experience in long distance moves. They know the job well and will keep your belongings safe. Make sure to ask them everything you need to know about their system.
